Silver Care

Here are some tips to keep your silver jewelry bright and shiny:

* Wash your sterling silver with soap and water, or

* Soak your sterling silver jewelry in ammonia for a minute or two, then rinse with water and dry with a soft towel, or

* Clean your sterling silver with alcohol.

* Store your jewelry in an air-tight bag.

For tarnished silver, use washing soda. Line a plastic container with aluminum foil and add 2 tablespoons of Arm & Hammer washing soda with hot water. Soak the silver pieces for about 10 minutes, rinse in clean water and dry with a soft towel. This is a great method for cleaning chains and jewelry without stones.

A few don'ts:

* Never use toothpaste or abrasive commercial cleaners on silver jewelry, as they can pit silver.

* Don't soak jewelry with bezel-set stones. Clean carefully around the stone, or use a polishing cloth.
